The Ring Fingers in Jin Shin Jyutsu

The Power of the Ring Fingers

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the basis of self help is the fingers. Holding each finger individually for a few minutes is a wonderful way to help all 144,000 energy functions. However, each finger is also useful to harmonise specific issues. In this blog post, we dive into the benefits of the Ring Fingers in Jin Shin Jyutsu.

Key Benefits

One of the KEY benefits of holding fingers is that we can harmonise ATTITUDES like WORRY, FEAR ANGER, GRIEF, EFFORTING (or TRYING TOs). We can get stuck in these attitudes which then block our energy flow.

The ring fingers are related to the attitude of GRIEF or SORROW. Holding the ring fingers can also:

  • Enhance Respiratory Health: It helps balance lung and large intestine functions, and makes breathing easier and deeper.
  • Reduce Ear Noises: It can help manage conditions like tinnitus, to help quiet hissing or buzzing sounds in the ears.
  • Support Deep Skin Health: Holding the ring fingers can help the deep layers of the skin.
  • Detoxification: Assist in cleansing the body of toxins.
  • Hormonal Balance: Help to balance the thyroid and regulate hormonal functions.

Inspirational Stories

Of course, Mary Burmeister always said: “BE your own testimony”, and it delights me no end to hear people’s Jin Shin Jyutsu personal success stories.

One such story involves one of my clients. She is a dedicated runner who discovered that placing the thumb over the ring fingernail transformed her running experience. It significantly boosted her stamina and breathing capacity. She now practices this hold every time she runs and has noticed a marked improvement in her endurance and performance.

I often wish that marathon runners, and other athletes, knew about the benefits of the ring fingers. I believe this awareness could give them an edge in their races, and significantly enhance their performance. This is especially true in endurance sports where respiratory efficiency and stamina are crucial.

Even if you’re not a runner, holding each ring finger while you walk will help – try it and feel the difference!

How to Hold the Ring Fingers in Jin Shin Jyutsu

Wrap the left hand around the right ring finger.
Relax the hands, and hold. (see image below)
For the other side, wrap the right hand around the left index finger.

There is also a mudra, or finger pose, that I like to practice, especially when I am walking or running. The nice thing is you can do both left and right sides at the same time:

Place your left thumb over the left ring finger nail and place your right thumb over the right ring finger nail.

Embracing Self Help

What I love about these stories is that they highlight the practical application of Jin Shin Jyutsu in everyday life and the impact it can have on our health and activities.

Whether you are an athlete, someone struggling with respiratory issues, or just seeking to maintain proper breathing, the practice of holding your ring finger is a simple yet effective tool that you can use anywhere and anytime. Available to you 24/7!
