Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Holds for Constipation
If the digestive system is upset…
Constipation is a common project or problem that a lot of us face at some time or other. It can happen at any time when our daily schedule is upset.
When my diet changes and I am away from home, when I eat different foods – my system can become upset. It can also become upset due to stress, emotional trauma etc.
Luckily, there are some Jin Shin Jyutsu self help holds for constipation.

Stay hydrated
To prevent constipation it is very important to make sure our system is hydrated at all times.
Dehydration, lack of exercise, not enough fibre and too much starch in the diet are, in my experience, some of the biggest causes of chronic constipation. (If symptoms persist always a good idea to get them checked out by a medical doctor)
In winter months I tend to forget to drink water. Medicines like diuretics can also increase the risk of dehydration.
I was told ages ago that if you feel thirsty, then your system is already in crisis.
Over the years, I have come across several approaches to drinking water.
I like to start with at least a couple of glasses of water when I get up in the morning, before breakfast. I have at least one glass last thing at night before bed (funnily enough, I’ve noticed that doesn’t necessarily make me ‘go’ at night). Then I try and remember to have a glass (or two) every two hours. Doesn’t always happen, but at least the plan is there!
The main thing is, start with small steps and do what works for you.

So for those annoying times, the following self help exercise will support and clear the LEFT energy down the front of the body:
Place your RIGHT hand over your LEFT shoulder. At the same time, place your LEFT hand/fingers on your LEFT sit bone with the palm up. Make sure you sit on a comfortable chair, otherwise your hand will feel squashed.
You can do this exercise sitting, lying or standing. Whichever is convenient for you. Hold for a few minutes, or as long as you feel like!
If you’re out and about, do this simple hold
Place your left fingers on the outside of the left knee (this is SEL 8 and it helps with constipation).
And when you can, bring your left leg up over the right knee. Place your left fingers on the outside of the left knee and hold the left big toe with your right hand (as shown in the image below). Hold for 2-3 minutes or as long as is comfortable.
And this one…
Cross your arms. Place your left hand on the right inner knee (at SEL 1), and place your right hand on the left inner knee (at SEL 1). Relax the hands and hold. You can also hold without crossing the hands. See which ones feels more comfortable for you. Easiest to do this one when sitting.
