Total and complete
The profoundness of Jin Shin Jyutsu is that it is total and complete.
It encompasses all of our human experiences on every level: spiritual, emotional, mental and physical.
I remember how I tried to get my head around the words ‘Jin Shin Jyutsu is complicatedly simple’, when I started studying it.
Yet, for it’s gorgeous simplicity, there are relationships within relationships in Jin Shin Jyutsu waiting to be explored and experienced. Sound/music, colour, numerology, astrology, the senses, the seasons, days of the week etc. all play a part in this wonderful Art of Living.
Relationships within relationships
For instance, one of my Jin Shin Jyutsu instructors opened my eyes to the relationships that exist between this Art and Astrology.
At the end of this article is an easy diagram of how the 12 organ flows relate to each astrological sign and how we can support each one by holding the corresponding fingers.
Let’s first have a look at the 12 organ flows.
12 Organ flows
According to Mary Burmeister, the 12 organ flows form part of our “individualised body function energy”. They are:
Lung
Large Intestine
Stomach
Spleen
Heart
Small Intestine
Bladder
Kidney
Diaphragm (a.k.a. Circulation Sex)
Umbilicus (a.k.a. Triple Warmer)
Gall Bladder
Liver
All 12 organ flows (Lung, Large Intestine, etc) circulate throughout the body 24 hours a day, non-stop. They clean, repair and re-generate. Every two hours, though, a different organ flow will do a ‘solo dance’. So, for instance, if my stomach is upset between 8 and 10 am, then this organ flow needs help. To support Stomach energy hold left or right THUMB.
When there is a transition from one to another organ flows, there can be a bit of disruption. I illustrate that in the example below.
Sometimes I wake up between 3 and 5 am and can’t get back to sleep. Four am is when the Liver energy transitions into the Lung energy. If I support my Lung energy BEFORE bedtime, I sleep through the night! It would also be beneficial to support Liver energy.
To support Lung energy, hold left or right RING finger, and to support Liver energy hold left or right Middle finger.
The astrological signs
Putting it all together
So let’s have a quick look at the relationship between Jin Shin Jyutsu and Astrology.
Below is a table that shows the following:
the time of the ‘solo dance’, the organ function, corresponding astrological sign (along with the essence of that sign in brackets) and finally, the relevant finger to harmonise all that.
Note that Diaphragm and Umbilicus organ flows are slightly different.
4-6 am – Lung – Aries (I AM) – Hold Ring Finger
6-8 am – Large Intestine – Taurus (I HAVE) – Hold Ring Finger
8-10 am – Stomach – Gemini (I THINK) – Hold Thumb
10-12 noon – Spleen – Cancer (I FEEL) – Hold Thumb
12-14 pm – Heart – Leo (I BEAM) – Hold Little Finger
14-16 pm – Small Intestine – Virgo (I ANALYSE) – Hold Little Finger
16-18 pm – Bladder – Libra (I BALANCE) – Hold Index Finger
18-20 pm – Kidney – Scorpio (I CREATE) – Hold Index Finger
20-22 pm – Diaphragm – Sagittarius (I PERCEIVE) – Hold Center Palm
22-24 midnight – Umbilicus – Capricorn (I USE) – Hold Center Palm
24-02 am – Gallbladder – Aquarius (I KNOW) – Hold Middle Finger
02-04 am – Liver – Pisces (I BELIEVE) – Hold Middle Finger
