Jin Shin Jyutsu to ease back pain
I was astonished when I discovered that over 500 million people worldwide suffer from back pain. On the other hand, I wasn’t really surprised, having recently experienced an episode of back pain myself. Luckily, I was able to resolve it after much Jin Shin Jyutsu self help. So in this post, I want to share one of the Jin Shin Jyutsu exercises I used to ease my back pain.
Watch the video and practice along in real time
An energy pathway that travels down the back
There is an energy pathway that travels all the way from the top of the head to the little toe on the left and right sides of the body. This is the bladder energy pathway or Bladder Flow as we call it in Jin Shin Jyutsu.
The left bladder flow goes from the head and travels down the neck and then down the back. When it goes down the back it does so in three distinct pathways all the way alongside the spine, to the coccyx and sit bone.
These three pathways continue to travel down to the center back of the knee where they converge. Then this energy travels down the back of the lower leg to the left little toe.
The same happens on the right side.
Helps with so many other things too!
This Jin Shin Jyutsu exercise is not only dynamic for all back projects, it helps many other things too. Many times, a tense back can be caused by a fear of letting go, or because of un-cried tears.
Some issues it helps with include:
- bladder issues (of course)
- headaches and migraines
- swollen legs
- bloody nose
- bloating
- dizziness
- muscle cramps
- sciatica

The Jin Shin Jyutsu exercise for back pain
Practice this sitting or lying down – main thing is that you are comfortable. Hold each hand position for 2-3 minutes or longer if it feels good!
Left Bladder Flow (for the left back – left side shown)
Place right hand on left side of neck (SEL 12) and
place left hand, palm against the body on the coccyx then
place left hand on the center back of the left knee then
place left hand on left outside of heel, under the ankle (SEL 16), then
left hand holds left little toe.
For the right Bladder Flow, reverse the hands:
Place left hand on right side of neck and
place right hand on coccyx, then
place right hand on center back of right knee, then
place right hand on right outside of heel, under the ankle then
right hand holds right little toe.
While this flow is really good at alleviating back pain, it goes without saying that Jin Shin Jyutsu is not a substitute for medical attention, diagnosis or treatment. If symptoms persist or worsen please seek medical advice.
